Join us and help save lives!
Captive bred foxes and wolf dogs are in desperate need! Every year in the US, thousands of foxes are killed in the fur trade, hundreds more are no longer able to remain with their family and countless others are abandoned, dumped or abused. Wolf Dogs don't have it any easier with over 80% being euthanized before the age of three due to neglect, abuse or un-prepared families. There are very few places for these animals to find refuge and the need only continues to grow. We are ready to grow with the need by building the largest captive bred fox rescue in the US able to house over 60 foxes and an expansive wolf dog facility able to house over 20 wolf dogs.
There isn't just a need to provide space for these animals, but to provide the best home possible. This revolutionary, one-of-a-kind facility that we are building will ensure every animal, no matter if they have only known a cage, spent their life at the end of a chain or lived inside a home, will be comfortable. Our facility will be the first captive bred fox rescue in the United states to provide every animals with constant access to climate controlled indoor space as well as outdoor space. Not only is comfort a top priority, but space is as well. The facility ensures that every animal has oversized enclosures and expansive, enrichment filled spaces to run, play and relax.
We invite you to be part of this life changing project and join us in not just saving a life, but caring for it as well! To learn about our naming opportunities or ways
Foxes have unique needs. They are smart, crafty, fast and sensitive. Because of this, to ensure a fox is happy and living its best life, they need a space specifically designed for them and that is what we are building. This facility focusses on, not just the basic needs, but the special ones that are unique to each individual fox.
Why is a climate controlled indoor space so important?
Did you know that some foxes are not fans of being outside? If a fox has lived its life in a home not only can outside be a little scary, but also a big adjustment due to temperature variation. The transition of being surrendered is hard enough on a fox, without the added stress of being forced to live outside in the elements. A transition outside for an indoor fox isn't just and emotional struggle, but a physical one as well. Foxes coats adjust to the climate they are in, so a fox that has never known extreme heat or extreme cold the transition to living in non climate controlled environment can cause discomfort and unneeded stress.
Being a captive bred animal doesn't mean you don't need space to be a fox!
Captive bred or not a fox is still a fox. This means their environment needs to allow them to be a fox with space to run and enrichment opportunities that allow them to use their instincts. We are providing both of those things by building large enclosures with not just indoor space, but outdoor space and expansive play yards. Our smallest enclosures will be 200 sq/ft and house up to two foxes. We will have larger enclosures, up to 350 sq/ft, that can house up to four foxes. These enclosures aren't just one level, but will have multiple levels and denning spaces that will allow every animal a safe place to experience their natural love of climbing and digging. In addition the over 20,000 sq/ft of play yards provide our foxes with further enrichment opportunities to climb, explore and run.
Staying healthy inside and out
Medical care is a top priority here at Walking Wild. Not only do many of our foxes come to us in need of immediate medical attention and treatment, but continual routine care in the form of exams, lab work and vaccines is needed for all of our foxes in addition to any other medical need that may arise. To ensure our animals receive the best medical care possible, our fox facility will include an onsite, fox specific, treatment room for our veterinarian to use when caring for our foxes. In addition to veterinary use, this space will also provide a clean, calm and quiet space for us to do our monthly physical checks on all of our foxes as well as provide treatment to anyone that needs it.
Safety First
Foxes are the perfect combo of brains and beauty. Because of this their safety is more than just the loving care they receive, but the space in which they live as well. To ensure our foxes are safe at all times our new facility will have lots of special features.
Although they are part dog, a wolf dog is very different than a regular dog and their environment needs specific features to keep them happy and safe. With wolf and dog instincts in their nature, wolf dogs need a facility that is tailored to their individual and unique needs.
Creating a wolf dog oasis!
Wolf dogs are social animals that need lots of room to run and explore. If not given the appropriate amount of space or social interactions they can become master escape artists. To ensure that all of our animals love their new home, we will have over 32,000 sq/ft of outdoor space divided into 7 habitats of various sizes, depending on wolf dog occupancy per habitat. Each outdoor space will include trees, climbing elements, underground dens, a water feature and plenty of space to run and play with their pack.
Why is a climate controlled indoor space so important?
Some wolf dogs have only lived inside. Because of this, giving them a space that has some of the features they are used to, comfy beds and a climate controlled space, is very important to help them feel safe, comfortable and happy. Although all wolf dogs, no matter inside or not, love spending time outside, a transition from inside pet to outside can be stressful. To eliminate that stress we will be providing our wolf dogs the best of both worlds, a comfy indoor space to cool off, warm up and relax and an outdoor space to play, adventure and explore.
Staying healthy inside and out
Medical care is a top priority here at Walking Wild. Many wolf dogs that find refuge here will have never received veterinary care and will be in need of medical attention. Transport to and from a vets office can be stressful, not just when they first arrive, but for routine care as well. To eliminate any unneeded stress our wolf dog facility will include a calming treatment room designed just for wolf dogs. This will allow our veterinarian to tend to most medical needs on-site in a safe and calm environment. In addition to veterinary use, this space will also provide a clean, calm and quiet space for us to do our routine physical checks on all of our wolf dogs as well as provide treatment to anyone that needs it.
Safety First
Wolf dogs are smart and powerful animals. Because of this their safety is more than just the loving care they receive, but the space in which they live as well. To ensure our wolf dogs are safe at all times our new facility will have lots of special features.
